Sony CEO Jim Ryan Says That They are Trying to Increase PS5 Production

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said that they are trying to increase the production rate of PS5, reported by Nikkei. The report was later translated by VGC.

Ryan says that PlayStation requested an increase in the production of semiconductors which are being used in PS5. COVID-19 had a big chunk of impact on the production of the console, when added with the trade war between the US and China, this has led to a drastic decrease in chip manufacturers available.

“Supply under the new coronavirus was very complicated, and we had to limit distribution to online. The supply and demand for semiconductors are also tight worldwide. We are asking our suppliers to allow us to increase production, which will flow into the market this year.”

The Semiconductor Industry Association also made a statement last December, saying that chip sales have grown by 8.4% compared to 2020’s records.
