Massively New Open-World Zombie Survival Game Promises “Redefining the Genre”

Undawn is an open-world zombie survival game that Tencent hopes to draw attention to.

The terms “open-world”, “zombie” and “survival” have been circulating in video games in various forms for so long that it’s hard to get too excited for a studio coming to a game that puts it all together. However, who knows what will happen?

Undawn certainly looks promising enough. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players must explore and work together to gather them, build them, build bases, and fight hordes of zombies. Other people can pose a threat too, and that needs to be dealt with as well. It is currently scheduled for release on mobile and PC later this year.

“With Undawn, we wanted to create a new kind of action game that combines open-world freedom with RPG elements that will completely redefine the genre, regardless of platform,” said Rick Li, executive producer of developer Lightspeed & Quantum Studios. “The fact that we have created such a great experience for mobile and PC platforms means that more players from all over the world can survive the apocalypse together, creating the potential for a massive open-world experience.”

The enormous success of Genshin Impact has proven beyond all reasonable doubts that open-world RPGs can evolve on mobile devices in ways we never thought possible a few years ago. A more realistic open-world zombie adventure where you can play with your friends wherever you are has a chance to emerge as one of the next big hits of the game.
