New Patent for PlayStation Could Mean The Revival of Classic Games for PS4/PS5

Recently published PlayStation patent could bring older titles to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

We know that Sony will be shutting down PlayStation 3, Vita, and Portable’s stores permanently in a few months. That means we won’t be able to purchase the titles that were in related stores anymore, of course, this excludes the ones that are in PlayStation 4 and 5’s stores. There are no announcements related to sales of older titles though, but this new patent could be a sign for them.

The origin of this rumor comes from Reddit, where it says that the patent is for adding award trophies to older games for PlayStation.

“It could be purely coincidental, but the publication date was March 18, 2021 and a rumor of Sony shutting down the PS3 and Vita stores hit the net yesterday. Could be something, or, as u/Zhukhov-74 puts it, another Sony patent that in all likely hood leads to endless speculation.” Reddit user PBOats121 commented on the post.

This could be the early steps of a project that will bring older titles to PS4 and PS5, but don’t get your hopes up yet, as this could be just Sony fixing up some mess with patent paperwork.
