We can say that Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remains one of the most popular entries in the franchise, possibly even one of the most loved first-person shooter games of all time.

Everything came together in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer mode to create the perfect experience. The maps and modes were varied and offered many ways to play, and the game itself was as sleek and smooth as you’d expect from an FPS. It rewarded players who took their time to be completely alienated to those trying to get involved for the first time, and that’s a difficult balancing act.

With all that in mind, when Activision released a remake of Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign earlier this year, it’s really a shame that this iconic multiplayer game isn’t anywhere to be seen. At the time, it was suggested that this was due to Activision and Infinity Ward’s unwillingness to smash the player base and distract people from the Modern War of 2019.

The good news is that the multiplayer returns of Modern Warfare 2 as you remember it, just not the way you expect or hope. As you can see, Activision may not have the intention of reinvigorating it in an official capacity, but a team of eight dedicated fans is more than happy to take the slack and give people what they want.

The ambitious project came out yesterday via a Discord Q&A (via CharlieIntel). The development team is working to remake nine of the original game’s classic maps, including Terminal and Rust.

It’s early days for the project that is expected to start at some point in 2021. For now, you can track the progress of the team via the development Discord server.
