The iconic PS2 Snowboarding game SSX Tricky turns 20 this year! I’m sure that this made you feel old. This game was considered one of the most popular extreme sports titles for years. And fans were waiting for a remaster for 20 years!
Well, there won’t be a remaster for SSX Tricky anytime soon. But the executive producer of the first three SSX games, Steve Rechtschaffner is working on a brand new arcade-type sports game!
Rechtschaffner said that this will be a free-to-play live service snowboarding title while speaking to Laptop Mag. It will have the smooth arcade-styled mechanics of SSX games. But it will add a bunch of new mechanics too. And they will keep the game fresh and fun.
The game is still on very early development, so we dont have any screenshots or videos about the project.
Rechtschaffner explained, “It wouldn’t be like we’re shipping a retail game because if we do our job right, a lot of these courses and experiences have deep replayability through progression and competition.” he also said that he hopes to ”introduce new content, course elements, locations, characters, live events and a variety of other fun and unexpected goodness.”
And Rechtschaffner did not want to leave fans clueless about the remastered version of SSZ, he said, “A lot of things that excite us are creative extensions of experiences that we would’ve liked to create at that time, but couldn’t. But what we are working on is not rooted in the world of SSX. We’re not nostalgic in the sense that we want to bring something back. If we were, we’d be working with EA to create a reboot of SSX. It’s not that at all. We don’t want to be beholden to people’s expectations of where that goes. But we do want to make this arcadey, amazing-feeling, very accessible, competitive, and fun game.”
