Bethesda Engine Is Making Its Biggest Upgrade

Bethesda’s Todd Howard said the company’s current engine has taken what may be the biggest upgrade ever to be used for Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6, and that it has been worked on by the largest number of employees the company has ever appointed.

Speaking at the Brighton opening session, Howard was asked how much work has been done on Bethesda’s proprietary Creation engine that has received criticism in the past. Howard said he admitted they needed more work than they had in previous times.

Howard stated that they currently have more people doing motor work, possibly five times more than they have ever had. “So the overhaul on our engine is probably the biggest we’ve ever had, maybe bigger than Morrowind to Oblivion.” he added.

Howard went on to explain that there were elements of creation that Bethesda continues to love, but noted that the changes made were numerous:

“There are things we do and still love. The way we build our worlds, the way people modify it.”

“It took longer than we would like, but it will power what we did with Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. When people see the result, I hope those on the screen are as happy as we do.”
