Sony Looks Like to Buy Crunchyroll for Over $ 957 Million

The Tokyo-based electronics giant will reportedly enter final talks to buy Crunchyroll. This acquisition will cost Sony 100 billion yen ($ 957 million).

Until now, Sony has licensed its anime to other anime-steaming services, such as the popular Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Adding Crunchyroll to its portfolio will put Sony in an equal position to face Netflix and Hulu.

Crunchyroll was founded in 2006. It currently has 70 million free members and 3 million subscribers. AT&T became its parent company in 2018. Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that AT & T was trying to sell Crunchyroll to Sony for $ 1.5 billion.
