War Mongrels is a Cruel Real-Time Tactical Game

Destructive Creations released an expanded gameplay trailer for War Mongrels, the upcoming Second World War real-time tactical game at today’s Realms Deep online event. And it showed the terrifying adventures of two German deserters who escaped their captors and attempted to escape the horrors of the Eastern Front.

Two exactly different modes of play will be supported: “planning mode” and “combat mode.” The first one will be most probably taken by the players who love secret strategic maneuvers while the second one will be taken by the ones who prefer a more hands-on approach. When your best-laid planning mode operation is moving sideways, the guns-blazing option can also be used as a backup, so being spotted by an enemy doesn’t mean reloading. A range of tactical options that can be taken alone or as a two-player co-op, going to and from combat is promised in the interactive world.

The studio said War Mongrels was built around a story inspired largely by history and explored violence, with “events, dates, locations, weapons, uniforms, in-game historical articles, and much more” taken from the real world with an exploration of the violence of the Eastern Front “with a level of graphical fidelity never-before-seen in the real-time tactics genre.” I don’t think this is the most attractive out-of-the-box feature I’ve ever come across, but the Steam page doubles and says, “War is hell and War Mongrels doesn’t sugarcoat anything.” and “War is hell, and War Mongrels doesn’t sugar coat anything.” says the Steam page.

Destructive Creations business development manager Marcin Stanek says, “War Mongrels’ story goes to some very dark places, and we wanted to make sure the gameplay made players’ hearts pound just as much as the campaign will” and “This first extended look only hints at the surprises we have in store for you.”

The game is planned to be released in 2021.
