The Long Dark’s Countdown Is Probably for Upcoming Story Mode

Please, be Story Mode!

First-person open world survival simulation by Hinterland, The Long Dark was released through Steam Early Access on September 22, 2014. And still, we are waiting for the Story Mode.

The Long Dark is a mesmerising work of art with cruel survival elements. The game takes place in the frigid Canadian wilderness and we are a crash-landed pilot who is trying to survive this frozen disaster. While playing The Long Dark, body temperature, caloric intake, hunger/thirst, fatigue, wind-chill, wildlife, and a host of other environmental factors always matter and must be taken care of.

Sandbox Mode of The Long Dark is playable for a long time now. And believe me, I am playing it for a long long time. Sandbox Mode includes six maps: Mystery Lake, Coastal Highway, Pleasant Valley, Forlorn Muskeg, Desolation Point, and Timberwolf Mountain. Coastal Highway is my favorite, but these six maps are connected to each other.

Our mission is of course staying alive by scavenging and utilizing whatever we find. You can hunt and you can create items which are essential for your survival. The Long Dark offers four experience modes: Pilgrim, Voyageur, Stalker and Interloper.

When it comes to death, The Long Dark is a permadeath game which means all your progress will be lost when you die. This may sound frustrating, but The Long Dark is an experience everyone must taste. The sound, the weather, the art work, the nature itself. The Long Dark is without doubt, inviting.

I’ve spent hours watching the sunset. I’ve spent hours listening the sound of my footsteps on the snow. In the summer, the cold penetrated right to my bones, thanks to The Long Dark.

But, what about the long-waited Story Mode? Hinterland was planning a late 2014 launch for Story Mode, later it was pushed to late 2016. One year ago, Hinterland shared a brilliant trailer for Story Mode.

And then, nothing. Now, Hinterland has launched a countdown which is mysterious and will end on May 4. By the looks of it, we can’t help but think about the Story Mode. Hopefully soon, we will be able to play the first episode of The Long Dark’s long-waited Story Mode.

Enjoy!
