New Avatar game will be a prequel to Avatar movie

Thanks to the partnership between Ubisoft, Lightstorm Entertainment and Fox Interactive, an Avatar game is now on the way.

We are familiar with the movie adaptations but, it usually works the other way around. And, because of the bitter taste they have left, we remain spectical. But this time, maybe we can hope a little since the Avatar game will be a prequel to the movie and James Cameron is in the team.

Avatar movie was a milestone in movie history since it was the very first epic science fiction movie with groundbreaking visual effects back then. Now, they all look alike. But still, Avatar remains as the father of stereoscopic filmmaking. Oh and before the game, let me say that there are 3 sequels coming for Avatar movie.

Avatar universe and story will be expanding with the first sequel movie which is scheduled for release in December 2018. And, with an AAA game project, Avatar universe will even expand larger since the game will be focusing the time before the movie. Hopefully, we will learn more about Pandora, Na’vi and mother goddess Eywa.

But what can we expect from an Avatar game since the movie was visually so satisfying? Well, Ubisoft Massive’s Snowdrop engine promises so much on that matter. “Snowdrop is a tailor-made, custom game engine that enables the creation of ultra-realistic game universes, enhanced by dynamic global illumination, stunning real-time destruction and an incredible amount of detail and visual effects.”

Managing Director of Massive Entertainment, David Polfeldt said:

James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment changed the way we think about immersive storytelling with the first Avatar. The ambition that they have for the forthcoming films and this game is really inspiring, It’s a privilege to work with them and we’re honoured that they’ve entrusted us to create an experience worthy of the Avatar name.

Here is what James Cameron said about the upcoming Avatar game:

What impressed me about Massive were the group’s passion for this project and the power of its Snowdrop engine. I believe Ubisoft’s team at Massive Entertainment are absolutely the right partners to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life.

There is no release date yet but we will be back with more detailed news. Well, cross your fingers and hope for the best guys!
