A New World of Darkness Game is Coming!

Cyanide, again?

Let’s remember… What was the last World of Darkness game we’ve played on our entertainment systems? It was Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, brought to life by Troika, which went bankrupt shortly after VTMB‘s release. A remarkable experience: It used Source engine before Half-Life 2, dialogs and characters were unforgettable, music was perfect and the atmosphere… Well if you did not play it, find it immediately; if you have a slightest interest in RPG games. If you did, you are probably reinstalling it right now.

A lot of uninteresting legal stuff went on about the World of Darkness, I really don’t want to bore you with tiresome details. But when Paradox Interactive took over the rights to publish & develop World of Darkness video games, we held our breaths for great news.

Now, in a press release, White Wolf (the creators & writers of this great universe) announced that they’ll be developing a Werewolf game hands in hands with Focus Home Interactive –Cyanide Studio as developers. We know Cyanide from their upcoming Call of Cthulhu game and Styx series.

The name will be Werewolf: The Apocalypse, for it is an adaptation of the WoD tabletop game with the same name. The Garou (werewolfs) are fighting to stop the endtimes, for a cosmic force called Wrym is threatening to destroy Gaia (The Earth). Although these are not the werewolfs you know from the fantasy fairytales. These are gun-toting, foul-mouthed badasses living in modern times. Of course, this depends on which clan you’re a member of; but if you want more details about the setting, you should click here. Other than that, let’s look at the summary given us in the press release:

“The world is dying. When will you Rage? The core question of Werewolf: The Apocalypse is more relevant today than ever before and the cooperation with Focus and Cyanide will finally give gamers the opportunity to revel in the raw power and primal spirituality of the Garou. What is the price of saving the world with fang and claw? Find out for yourself as we explore the darkest corners of a dying planet.”

What will it be? Will Cyanide be able to create an atmosphere that clings to the soul, just like the atmosphere in VTMB? We’ll see. Hey, Cyanide & Focus Home. You are developing great games in great settings, and those worlds are beyond price for us fiction lovers. Please don’t mess these up, or we will be very angry. We’ll become so angry that we’ll open a subreddit that makes constant passive-aggressive attacks on your dignity. Beware.
